On September 25, the former boxer will compete against MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan, marking his second exhibition there after quitting the sport five years prior. In 2018, Mayweather fought Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa where the latter got knocked out three times in just two minutes. Mayweather has triumphed in titles across five different weight divisions. After defeating Andre Berto in 2015, Mayweather announced his retirement with a record of 50-0. He returned in 2017 and won a TKO over MMA champion Conor McGregor. Mikuru is competing in the Rizin and has a 16-3-1 MMA record. The 29-year-old Asakura made his pro-MMA debut in 2012. A RINGS featherweight and lightweight champion, Asakura has competed for RIZIN in most matches. Holding the bout under boxing rules provides Mayweather a clear edge, as it did when he faced Conor McGregor and Tenshin. Mayweather’s exhibition bout versus Mikuru is unlikely to change significantly compared to his past contests.
Main event: Floyd Mayweather vs. Mikuru Asakura
Date: September 25, 2022 (Sunday)
Time: 11:00 PM EST / 8:00 PM PST / 8:30 AM IST (next day)
Location: Saitama Super Arena, Saitama, Japan
In 2018, Mayweather the ‘Money’ faced and defeated Rizin star Tenshin Nasukawa after his 50th and a final professional bout against Conor McGregor. Before focusing on the Japanese combat community once more, he engaged in combat with Don Moore and Logan Paul before. The undefeated boxer will now compete in his fourth exhibition and looks confident in securing an effortless payday since he is the clear favorite. The 45-year-old opponents' skills have not seemed to faze Mikuru Asakura. However, Floyd Mayweather is still a defensive mastermind inside the ring and would likely outmatch Asakura with ease.
The 29-year-old Asakura made his MMA debut in 2012. Boasting a 16-3 MMA record, Asakura is confident that his matchup with Mayweather will not end in defeat as it did for Tenshin Nasukawa. The underdog Asakura does not have much going for him outside his youth. Many Japanese supporters will support him to exact revenge on the defeat of Tenshin Nasukawa, who looked like an amateur against Mayweather in the 2018 matchup. So Asakura will get home support in this fight while also receiving a hefty salary, which would be much higher than anything he has received in his entire career.
